Music Video - Using planning documents.

In order to make the music video successful and make sure it meant the criteria for our audience, we must make sure that we keep to our story boards and the idea that we had planned to do. The storyboard was one of the main equiptments that was needed because it guided my partner and I in what kind of shots we would film and in what sequence the production would be in.

STORYBOARD

This is a screen shot of one of the storyboard ideas. In this part of the storyboard it shows my partner and I in one of our locations in the music video. This location that is presented is in morden park and there were varies things to film such as a waterfall, a riverbed, and the scenery. This helped us to get a rough idea of the kind of things we need to film and what our music video would at least consist of. This also gave us a template as a back-up just in case both my partner and I couldnt think of any other ideas to include in the music video or there was shot we didn't like we could have possibly changed the idea and the footage to something else.

ANIMOTO

The next thing that we had to do after the stroyboard was to cut it up and them put it in a sequenced order of what we would want it to look like, as if it was the music video. My partner and I had a joint decision in the order that the animo to would be in. This gave my partner ( Clare O'Mara ) and I a brief as well as clear interpretation as to what the finished product of the music video may look like.

Once my partner and I had come to a joint decision that the Animatic looked finished and looks like our finishing product then we decided to move onto the next task which was to make a prop and costume choice sheet. This was an informational sheet that we made in order to be aware and to understand the kind of clothing and objects( the props ) that we would have liked to be seen in the music video. However due to one of the conventions in the music video stating that in every shot the artist would wear a different costume to match their surrounds. This meant that every time we wished to film or shoot a scenery we would have to wear a different costume to appeal to our audience. Furthering towards the shooting of the music video by doing the props and costumes list it helped my partner and i in the decisions of what kind of items would best appeal to our audience in which specific scenes.

One other planning document that we were required to make was a "treatment " document that was made on word. This was a document that was made by both my partner and I and it consisted of a range of information giving both us of a clear understanding and a prosperous idea of how the music video may look once finished as well as the skills and the requirements in order to make a proficient music video.

During the planning of making the music video I decided to make a paper edit for the music video. This is material which is shown through a table which allows me to understand how to easily read my music video as well as what the videos would look when edited. Hence this helped me to create my music video due to the fact that it gave me a better understanding of not only how it would look when its finished as well as the structure that it would be in.

During making the paper edit my partner and I chose to make an editing schedule. This allowed my partner Clare O'Mara and I made this document together however got different results due to the fact that we did our own music videos with the same song. However it also gave use various different errands that would have needed to be complete. This then goes to prove that the paper edit contributed to the help of my partner and I during the creation of our music video because we were both able to know what we had to do, when we had to do and why we had to do it. By setting the dates of when we need to do do the music video allowed us to be more productive and to be able to get work done.

Before we started the production of the music video my partner Clare O'Mara  and I had to make a casting decisions sheet. This was a list that allowed us to know what to expect and what to do when filming. This allowed me and my partner to know who would be lip-syncing at what scene and who would have to be filming. This contributed to us making the best possible music video in a better and much more planned way as well as allowing the producing to go quickly and efficiently.

However before we could possibly make that sheet we had to first create a location visit sheet which showed us where we had to film as well as all the positives as well as the negatives of filming and visiting each location. This allowed Clare O'Mara and I to be a bit more productive in making our music video due to the fact that we knew the kind of locations that we would be visiting as well as what we would need to expect when filming in those locations.

Once my partner and I had made the important documents in order to make a successful music video we then went onto making a shooting schedule. This was a document that has been made to allow both of us to be fully prepared on what had to be done when visiting each locations that had to be filmed and when we had to film. This allowed us to be a bit more organised and have everything well planned for what had to be done for each day . It also helped us know where and who was filming at that location as well as the costumes that would have to be set and ready for that day .

To be prepared and ready for shooting the music video my partner and I decided to create a proposal sheet. This was a sheet that is crucially required in order to make a efficient music video- this documents informs both of us on what is takes to be able to target our audience through the music video. I believe that this is very beneficial for my partner and I to make this document due to the huge contribution that it would bring in order to create a music video that would help us target our audience in a better way by thinking about the shot types, costume , props and hair and make-up as well as other qualities that we may not know about yet.

One of the most important document that my partner and I made was the risk assessment. This was a report that was made in order to educated my partner Clare O'Mara and I on what kind of risks and hazards we may have to face whilst the production and filming of the music video. The report allowed us to be very cautious and aware when filming in heavily congested places and and uneven ground due to the risks that the equipments may possess as well as any high risks around us when filming. It also gave us guidance on how to avoid and kinds of risks or hazards that we may have to face and what to do when they do happen.

The last document that my partner and I had to make was the rushes log. This was a log that allows the producers of the music video know how much footage has been shot / filmed at each day and location for the production of the video. This also allows us to know how much we have filmed if there is more to be filmed as well as what to film. This shows that the rushes log was a massive contribution to the production of the music video due to the fact that it helped Clare O'Mara and I in making the music video as well as be aware of how the footage turned out and if it needed to be changed in order to make a successful and appealing music video

Music Video Production

What did you film?
For the music video  my partner Clare O'Mara and I mainly filmed ourselves lip-synching to the music in various different locations. We did this in order to capture and enhance our body language and the emotions that we were feeling and hope that it would emit to our target audience and that they would have the same emotions when listening to the song. It was also to help the audience understand the concept of the video and clearly see the artist and what we are trying to show.
When did you film?
During filming for the music video we have filmed in various locations and we have filmed on different dates. Our first music video that we filmed was on the 16th October and the location we filmed at was Rose Hill Park. My partner and I decided to film in this location due to the beauty of the background and it consist with our theme of " The Unknown". It was also due to the large amount of space that we could film anywhere as well as the fact that we have natural lighting which would allow the video to feel a bit more realistic to the audience. We then filmed on the 21st of October and this location was in Morden Park. The reason why we decided to film in this location was due to the fact that it had a beautiful rose garden and we though that it would make the video a bit more appealing relatable for the target audience.

WWW-
I believe that when filming the music video a lot of good footage were filmed. This includes having various different locations and different costumes to match with the location. I think that by going to these different locations and with the costumes gives the audience the feeling that they can relate to the video due to the costume and locations that are shown in the video.

WWW-
As well as location the music video consist of various different angle shots. In order to make the video interesting and exciting to watch there has to be various different angle shots. This is to give the audience the chance to use their imagination as to what the whole location may look like.

EBI-
In some of the video that we recorded the focus and quality of the video wasn't to the best that it could be. I believe that if we were going to record anything further we would have to ensure that the focus is crisp and that its not blurry. We also have to ensure that you can clearly see the artist and what the are singing as well as their facial expressions.

Did you need to reshoot anything? If you have already reshot it, what made it better than before?

During making the music video we had no need to re-shoot any of the videos that we had already captured. My partner and I choose that all the footage we had was successful and that any footage that had a fault in it would be edited in a way that the audience wont see those faults. This is in order to make it successful and appear more professional for the audience watching.

Did you stick to your storyboards?

We did decide to stick to our storyboards in some of the scenes due to the fact that we thought it would it would be good to keep those scenes and that it would make the video a bit more interesting to watch.I think that the only times we maybe didn't stick to the storyboard was when we had filmed any extra scenes to make the music video have more locations and shot types to make it exciting to watch.

Were you well prepared enough?
My partner Clare O'Mara and I were well prepared for the production of the music video due to the fact that we knew what we were meant to film, where to record and what qualities each location had for the music video to be appealing for the audience. When setting out to record we also made sure to check the weather and if we had the right equipment that we needed for that day.

What have you learned about filming from this experience?
I have learned many different things whilst the production of the music video that I think I could remember for a long time. The first thing I learnt was that when making a music video is the amount of planning that goes into it- this includes thinking about the equipments you're using, where you would film, what part of the location you would feel at ,what to wear and what the video is going to consist of. I also learnt that you would have to book the equipment that is needed a least 24 hours before the filming for the music video or else the schedule that you had planned would need to be thought of for another day which would delay the production rate. One important thing I learnt was the amount of planning it goes into making the music video such as what the final product would look like, thinking about risks when filming, the costumes and make-up as well as the costumes to make the music video successful. However I believe the most important thing is to make sure you sync the artist singing to the music. If not it would confuse the audience and the video would like sloppy and would make the audience get confused with the storyline.

Music Video- First Draft WWW, EBI

What Went Well- I believe that in my music video I have portrayed the concept and message that I wished to in the music video. The theme of ' The Unknown ' is shown through the use of the extra footage shot around varies different locations. This not only allows the music video to be conventional but it also allows the audience to feel like they are the ones going to these locations. This also makes the video appealing and interesting for the audience to watch due to the various locations shots in the video.

What Went Well - One other thing that the music video consist of is the use of the lip-syncing. By having the artist lip-syncing it not only get the audience to know who the artist is they can also see and feel the expressions of the audience whilst watching the video.

Even Better If- So far in the music video it lacks enough viewing shots of the artist. To be able to make the music video relatable and appealing to the audience I would need to ensure that the audience sees the audience and the emotions that they are trying to portray.

Even Better If- Some of the footage that are seen in the music video are unclear and not defied to the best it could be. I think that in order for the audience to know and see the footage it would have to be clear and easy to see. In order to make this achievable I could try and make the image clearer or try and get a better footage of the video. I could also just replace the image.

Even Better If-  In some of the footage in the video I think that i may have just put it in there in order to make the music video, I have to think about the kind of footage I would like in the music video and when to place them, In order to do this I would have to plan what I'm going to put in the music video at what moment.

Film Your Rushes

To make the first draft of your music video you must ensure that you have the most important conventions in a music video. These are : different locations, lip-syncing, costume, different shot types and the most crucial one- the artist present in the music video. At times in very successful music video all of these conventions mentioned are present in the music video - thus making them popular within the public. When the artist is lip-syncing along to the music you must ensure that the syncing to the music to precise or else the video would look to fake and wouldn't look professional.

Within the music video I have decided to show these two videos as my location shots. This is to make the audience engaged and intrigues with the video and what the theme is and what it consists of. I've also decided to include these two shots to allows the video to become more conventional and allow the audience to understand what's happening in the video and so that everything can link and relate to each other and wouldn't be confusing for the audience.

In this footage we can clearly see one of the artist and their choice of costume. This is to allow the audience to connect to the music and the audience and feel like they can relate to the artist. It also allows the audience to understand the connection between the artists costume and how it relates to the theme and the location that they are in.

I have decide to include these two footage in the music video to include a range of different shots in the video. This makes the music video a bit more exciting and engaging to watch. It also allows the audience to see more of the scenery and the props present at a side angle than showing it from the front. It also gives the music video and interesting concept.

In this shot we can see both artist and we can tell that the shot type is a long shot. Having a long shot in the music video allows the audience to get a better view of the location that the artist is present in. It also give the audience the chance to better examine what the artist is wearing and see the connection from the artists costume to the theme of the music video. It gives the audience the chance to compare and see the different in the different shots, locations and costumes that the artist wears. By having a long shot in the music video it makes the video much more conventional and different due to the constant change in shot types and scenery. Thus potentially making the music video widely popular for the target audience. However you must ensure that you use the correct type of shot with the correct video shoot, otherwise the video would look unprofessional and would look very messy and not well-made.

Music Video- Uploading the footage

Once my partner ( Clare O'Mara ) and I had succeeded in filming for the music video our first priority after that was to ensure that the footage was save. In order for this to happen we had to upload the footage onto the computer that we had chosen to edit the footage on. We also had to ensure that the video was also on the editing program/software that we were going to use so that it would be very easy to access the footage when we were ready to start editing.

To be able to make these things possible you would firstly have to make sure that you have the card that the footage is stored on. If you recorded without a card it would make the downloading process a bit harder. Once you have located the memory card that the footage is on insert it into the computers card slot. If there isn't a slot for it you may need to get an adapter. Once the card has been inserted in the computer and the files has been located you must copy and paste the footage into a new folder that has been names something that relates to the music video. When I did this step I named it ' Day 1' then the location that we went to film. This was in order for me to easily remember what we did that day, and what kind of footage to expect when I get into that folder. I did this for each of the different locations I went to. Once the footage is in a new folder with the name of your choice you must ensure that the video is in the editing software. This is to ensure that once you are ready to edit all the videos are already in the software. Once you are ready to edit the footage make sure to name the file something that you would remember and relates to what you are doing. In my case due to the fact that my song is Unknown by Foxes and my partner is Clare O'Mara I chose to name is " Unknown Music video - Khrystlyn and Clare ".This allows me to keep to the topic and find my files easily.

Music Video- Makeup Choices

In the music video of "Unknown " Clare O'Mara and I would be wearing makeup to make the music video a bit more appealing to the audience. One of the reasons why music video are appealing to the audience is through the use of makeup. If the audience is watching the artist that they are watching is physically attractive then they would feel compelled to watch the music video. It would also make the music video a bit more relatable to the audience in terms of everyday life.

VoxPop- What I learnt from doing it

By doing the voxpop and asking my target audience ( 13 - 18 year olds ) about their knowledge about the internet and how to stay safe I realised that they have a a wide knowledge about the dangers of the internet and how to stay safe. My audience that I asked had the same common knowledge however some knew more than the other did. This made me realise that they only knew the basics of being safe online however don't know the major parts of protecting their computer from virus' or anything else that may harm it. However by doing this it allowed my to get further information about my audience and what kind of things that they would see in a social message campaign within an advertisement for their age.
